Village Monsters is a top-down adventure game with RPG elements, in which the main story revolves around an abandoned video game world and the monsters that used to be a part of it. Your character is free to explore a village full of monsters that have somehow put their differences aside and live together in peace. Naturally, things start to change once you begin to interact with the characters and the world itself.

The game’s motto is complete freedom, which is why there are no pressing tasks to require your immediate attention. Instead, you are free to explore the village and find a hobby, as well as personalize your home with the desired furniture, upgrades and decorations. You can also influence the development of the village, as well as complete missions for your monster neighbors.

Given the fact that everyone is peaceful in the game, there is no need for combat, which means that you are free to occupy your time with all the other available activities. The game runs on a day/night cycle, and you can see certain things changing as time passes. You can actually expand the village with new buildings if you get involved in its development, so there’s definitely a lot to do.

In terms of controls, you can move around with ease, especially since the top-down perspective is very easy to get acquainted with. The graphics are not particularly striking or revolutionary, but the pixel artwork is very neat and enjoyable, even in this early version of the game. Every monster is unique in its appearance, so the chances of you getting bored are quite slim.

Village Monsters is certainly a breath of fresh air, especially in terms of story and gameplay mechanics. Thus, we can only hope that the developers keep up the good job, and you can lend them a hand by participating in their Kickstarter campaign.
