Vikings - Wolves of Midgard Demo

Vikings were the kind of civilization that still holds secrets even today, given the fact that they traveled a lot and had interesting traditions to say the least. In fact, scientists are starting to believe that Vikings may have been the first Europeans to visit the Americas a few hundred years before Columbus made it there, which would be quite the development.

Vikings - Wolves of Midgard is a top-down action-adventure game in which you get to create a character and use his skills to take on hordes of enemies at once. The gameplay mechanics are not revolutionary, nor are they particularly engaging, but it all depends on how invested you are in the action. There are other things you can do besides killing things, including collecting powerful items.

The top-down perspective might make you think of a classic hack & slash such as Diablo, but the gameplay is not exactly like that. In fact, this is closer to something like Dark Souls instead, given the fact that you can perform a few special moves and roll around to dodge enemy attacks. Unfortunately, the fights get repetitive after a while, mainly because it doesn’t take long to learn every type of attack and how to counter it.

As mentioned before, there are all sorts of items that can be collected along the way, including some that just increase your score but do not have a direct impact on your character. You can also use special abilities and your berserker rage to deal more damage when you are in a tough spot. Boss fights and special enemies make an appearance too, so there’s definitely quite a bit of fun in there for you.

Since you usually have to deal with multiple enemies at once and dodge their attacks to stay alive, it’s important for the controls to be as accurate as possible. Thankfully, Vikings - Wolves of Midgard features smooth controls, regardless of whether you use a keyboard or a gamepad. Granted, it may be easier for some to use a gamepad, but PC veterans should not have any trouble figuring things out.

Vikings - Wolves of Midgard is not a bad game, but it lacks that special ingredient to make it memorable. Hence, it’s just too dull and repetitive most of the time, in spite of the decent graphics and fluid combat sequences.
