Vestr's Story Demo

Being a member of the royal family obviously comes with a lot of perks, including money, fame and all the other good things, but there are also a few responsibilities and obligations. More often than not, it’s important for members to marry other blue bloods, although in modern days that is not always the case. Even so, there are plenty of stories out there about kings who loved common women and vice versa.

Vestr's Story is an interactive visual novel about a young prince who is about to turn eighteen and come one step closer to the throne of his father. The game features multiple routes you can take right from the beginning, which means that you can get at least two playthroughs and not witness the same events twice, at least in theory. Granted, this is still a demo at this point, so that is not a huge part of the game yet.

The story is actually a prequel to Mark of Lost Royalty, but you do not necessarily have to be familiar with that one in order to enjoy Vestr's Story. However, some characters might be easier to place if you already know them, and the overall setting is not as strange for returning players. In short, this time you have to help Prince Vestr find a suitable partner to share his life with and maybe lead the kingdom.

As it always happens, there are more options for Vestr, including a princess chosen by his parents. However, Vestr is not that keen on marrying Lucetta, which is why he focuses on other girls and tries to find someone he likes on a more personal level. As for choices, you can only make them in the prologue at the moment, so the story is pretty much set in stone after that, which is a bit of a bummer.

Even so, there is a lot of dialog to read through along the way, and you can easily become attached to the characters along the way. This is also helped by the fact that the artwork is pretty striking and colorful, and the characters are unique in terms of appearance. The backdrops are fairly enjoyable too, as is the soundtrack that keeps you company.

Even if it can be enjoyed as a standalone experience, Vestr's Story makes more sense as a prequel, so you are bound to be more involved if you are already familiar with the original game. However, the story has plenty of room to grow into something much more interesting once the full version is finished.
