Vastar Demo
Stop an evil wizard from destroying the world in this classic top-down RPG with an emphasis on story and character development #Role-playing game #Combat RPG #Retro RPG #RPG #Role-play #JRPG
Saving the world from evil wizards should be a familiar experience for every role-playing game fan out there, because it’s usually the same story all again every time. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not exciting, as long as the adventure is presented in a clever way to catch your attention and get you involved in the atmosphere.
Vastar is a retro role-playing game sporting 2D graphics and a heavy emphasis on story, as well as exciting combat sequences and plenty of items that can be collected and equipped by the characters. Speaking of which, there are three characters to choose from at the beginning of the game, each one of which has a different personality and a variety of special skills that can come in handy.
The story is not very original, on the other hand, at least not the general idea. As such, the entire world is threatened by a powerful wizard who decides to use powers for evil and complete a ritual that would inevitably end everything that is good. For some reason, three siblings happen to be the only thing standing between him and world domination, so it’s up to you to save the day.
Just like in every JRPG-inspired games, the combat system is turn-based and each creature or characters gets its turn to spend action points. There are multiple options to go for, including simple attacks with a weapon, spells, special abilities, or merely defending yourself from enemy attacks instead. Naturally, some confrontations are more difficult to overcome than others, but there’s always a solution to come out victorious.
As far as the technical aspect is concerned, the 2D graphics are obviously pretty rugged and simple, so don’t expect anything too great. However, a lot of details went into the environments, and there are plenty of fascinating places to visit. Not only that, but each room seems to be filled with containers and chests that sometimes contain interesting items.
While Vastar is not exactly a trendsetter, nor does it come close to being a memorable game and a go-to example of the genre, it certainly is pretty fun. Hence, if you’ve got the patience for it, the game can provide you with a few hours of mild entertainment.
