There are countless pages of lore when it comes to vampires and related creatures, dating back a few hundred years and spanning all over the world. Although they differ in some aspects, they all share a few defining characteristics, such as the fact that they need human blood in order to survive and they are basically immortal, in the sense that they do not get old or die from old age.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption is a role-playing game that puts you in the skin of a powerful vampire, who must avenge the death of his sweetheart, destroy the vampires that were responsible for the murder and suffer for his own sins along the way. You are also joined by a few of your friends, who are also vampires and posses various abilities that come in handy during the brutal fights with the Teutonic Knights and other creatures.

A great effort went into the story on which the game is built, as well as into the accurate representation of the vampires as mythological creatures. Hence, the name of your character is Christof Romuald and he was in love with a nun by the name of Anezka, who is kidnapped by vampires and turned into a ghoul, which is basically a vampire slave. As he tries to rescue her, Christof gets turned into a blood drinker himself and that is how the tale of revenge and massacre begins.

After the story seems to start making sense and you stumble upon a great battle, things quickly revert back on you and you suddenly wake up one thousand years later, in the modern city of New York, under a few tons of rubble. Naturally, your troubles are far from gone and you must fight your way to the truth yet again, this time by using automatic weapons and various other modern technology.

The game also features revolutionary 3D graphics, which are capable of rendering extremely detailed characters and very convincing shadows to go along with them. The dialog is voice acted in its entirety, as are the carefully put together cutscenes that blend the story elements together. As far as the gameplay mechanics are concerned, they are basically the ones found in a classic RPG, with a top-down view of your party, although you do get to rotate the camera and zoom in whenever you want.

In the end, it's the story and the fascinating world of the game that make Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption a very enjoyable title, especially if you are an RPG fan and you happen to dig vampires as well. Unfortunately, you also need to be prepared for a few bugs and gameplay issues, since you will hit upon them quite often.
