Valiant

Back in the day, warriors went through tough training programs just to be able to carry their armors and shields, not to mention the fact that they also had to wield a weapon at the same time. Granted, everyone else was just as slow, so it wasn’t a huge disadvantage. On the other hand, horses changed the situation entirely, especially after Genghis Khan brought mounted archers to the battlefield.

Valiant is a multiplayer VR game focused on medieval warfare, in which your goal is to defeat the enemy team and score as many kill as possible. Obviously, the recipe is far from original from a conceptual point of view, but the whole thing is much more intense when you experience it with a VR headset. As such, you feel much closer to the action, although you also have to watch out for dizziness.

There are not many game modes to choose from, since it’s basically a team deathmatch with two bases and a rather small map to hold more than a handful of players at once. You can only play from horseback too, which means that it takes you a couple of seconds to go from one end of the map to the other. This hurts the overall experience, but the combat aspect is still pretty nice.

As mentioned before, there are multiple weapons to choose from, such as crossbows, swords and lances. You need to change your style for each of them, but it’s pretty nice to switch from one to the other. Unfortunately, it would seem like everyone is playing with a bow, which makes that matches very annoying and frustrating. Hence, you always have to watch out for random arrows flying past you.

The best thing about the game is the perspective, since your view is obstructed by the helmet, which helps an awful lot with immersion. Obviously, the fact that you can rotate your head and look around however you choose to is also great, courtesy of the VR headset. On the other hand, you really need to watch out for motion sickness, because the action is very fast-paced, and you’ll constantly be looking around you.

Valiant certainly has a lot of potential, but it needs more content before it can please hardcore players. The gameplay needs some polish as well, because there are plenty of glitches and bugs to ruin your fun.
