Undone: Project Nightmare Demo
Unravel the secrets of a dying world while learning about your past in this first-person horror game #Adventure game #Horror game #Puzzle game #Adventure #Horror #Puzzle
The apocalypse has been imagined and reimagined by thousands of people, whether just as an exercise in imagination, or in the form of a book or a movie. Besides the classic options such as an asteroid or God’s wrath, humanity might also perish at the hand of a zombie apocalypse, or due to some kind of super virus that infects everyone before a cure can be found.
Undone: Project Nightmare is a first-person adventure game with horror elements and a pretty intriguing story, even of the premise is not at all original in any way. However, the way it is told is kind of interesting, not to mention the fact that you are in for a couple of jump scares as well. Your main goal is to explore the environment and solve a few puzzles along the way, so the action is pretty slow-paced.
As for the story, you play the role of a character with no memory of who he is or how did the world has come to an end. Everything has been invaded by jungle and murky waters, which makes exploration difficult and dangerous. On top of it all, your character also suffers from some kind of mental illness that causes him to experience hallucinations, which makes it even harder to figure out the world around you.
The most disappointing thing about the game (at least in the demo) is the fact that you do not have a choice when it comes to the path you follow through each level. Linearity is a big issue, especially nowadays when open world games are so widespread and popular. Hence, you have to deal with annoying scripted events and cramped environments, not to mention the thick darkness that makes it difficult to see anything farther than a few feet around you.
Speaking of which, the graphics appear to be quite nice, but again, the darkness kind of obstructs your view most of the time. It’s only natural for this to be the case in a horror game, but here it actually hinders your ability to find your way. You might also miss important objects if you do not pay enough attention, which is yet another downside.
In the end, Undone: Project Nightmare could easily turn into something much better in the future, but it needs more work for that to happen. Until then, the presentation is a bit too disappointing for the experience to be pleasant.
