Uncle Frost Demo

It would appear that Santa has a lot of trouble when Christmas approaches, given the fact that there’s always something going wrong with the presents, his workers, or a variety of other things. Movies and video games have tackled the subject from every direction, making it difficult to create something original when it comes to Santa and the Christmas season.

Uncle Frost is an action-platformer with retro graphics that puts you in the role of a very angry Santa, with the purpose of destroying an entire army of evil toys and robots. Your only powers are to jump and shoot, but you can level up along the way and improve your weapon with more powerful ammunition. Other than that, it’s all about staying alive until the end of every level.

The action is linear and quite simple, since all you have to do is shoot everything that comes at you and keep moving forward. Sometimes it’s even possible to jump over the enemies and ignore them completely, although that doesn’t get you the candy they drop, which in turn provides you with the experience needed to level up and get stronger.

Besides the snowmen and the flying robots, you can also see a few giant robots running in the background, although most of them do not get to make an appearance in this demo. Even so, every enemy has to be approached in a different manner, depending on how dangerous they are. In fact, some require you to slow down and take precise shots, while others force you to move as quickly as possible.

The graphics are nothing to write home about, but they should trigger the nostalgia in older players, because they look like something you might have played on a Game Boy back in the day. Some of the levels can be rather repetitive and featureless, on the other hand, so more work is needed in this regard to keep the players entertained.

In the end, Uncle Frost can easily keep you busy for the duration of this demo, since it’s a pretty well-designed platformer. However, it needs better level design and more gameplay options to really make an impression on the players.
