Uncanny Valley is a horror game that will make players question their sanity. It’s built and published by a studio named Cowardly Creations.
Horror games are usually all about jump scares, and Uncanny Valley does that pretty much all the time, but it also completes the experience with a really good design and some pretty interesting ideas. It’s not the best horror game that you’ll play, but it’s definitely one that you will remember for quite some time.
There are quite a few horror games made in 2D and with graphics that seem to place them in a completely different era, but it’s a choice made by developers to appeal to people who used to play games a quarter of a century ago. It’s also much easier to animate and work with characters that are three pixels wide. For the most part, the choice of using a 2D game engine is a good one, but there are times when you wish for more.
Horror games might not be to everyone’s liking, so make sure that you know what you’re getting into. Uncanny Valley is not for the weakhearted and people need to know this ahead of time. I played without taking into consideration the fact that it might scare me. It did, and in a way that made me wary of returning.
You take the role of Tom, a simple guy that just seems to be going home. He’s attacked by shadowy figures and gets killed. He wakes up in another place, thinking that he had a nightmare, only it turns out that he’s still dreaming. He’s killed again, only to wake up in an elevator.
Tim is a night security guard at a strange facility. You find that all kinds of strange things are happening, and you will probably die again. The thing with Uncanny Valley is that even if you die, you don’t do the whole thing all over again.
The game becomes more difficult, and players need to adapt to the new issues. For example, one of the most common problems is that the main character moves slowly and more cautiously. The demo level is not all that long, but it’s will be enough to give players a few proper scares.
