Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most best-selling game series out there, with millions of copies sold worldwide. It also made Sega one of the most important game companies on the planet, even if nowadays it’s not getting too much attention. The fans have created countless remakes over the years, some which actually got a lot of recognition from the community.

Turbo The Hedgehog Origins is a retro platformer designed by a dedicated fan, and it features most of the same elements you might find in the old Dreamcast releases from back in the day. However, instead of the blue Sonic everybody is used to, you get to play with Turbo, who is basically a red version of the beloved hedgehog and he can do the same tricks as well.

To begin with, the gameplay is about what you would expect from a retro remake such as this one, which means that most of your time is spent running around, performing tricky jumps and dealing with various types of enemies. It is also of vital importance that you collect the golden rings scattered around the levels, because they basically act as your hitpoints.

Speaking of which, the level design is not bad at all, although it may prove to be a tad too frustrating for non-Sonic fans. Some of the stunts you have to perform require a bit of experience with the genre and a tight grip on the controls. While Turbo does indeed respond pretty accurately to your input, it may take a while to get used to the fast game pace.

From a technical point of view, you need to be prepared to deal with low-resolution graphics, because that’s what a retro remake usually features. The title at hand was developed using Game Creator, so do not expect anything too fancy when it comes to the visual component. However, thanks to the inspired level design, you might be able to get in the proper mood and treat your nostalgia.

Although the character may not be the same and the gameplay differs a little bit, Turbo The Hedgehog Origins is pretty nice overall. Hence, if you feel like experiencing a bit of the old platformer days, this can be the game to offer you what you need.
