We have been playing vertical shooters for a very long time, so we know what we like, and we know what’s been done in the past three or so decades. It’s easy to think that everything has been done, and there is nothing left to innovated, but you would be surprised to know that developers are still coming up with ways of surprising us.

This is just the case with Tungsten Valkyrie, a game that doesn’t seem to excel at what’s trying to accomplish. Building a good vertical shooter shouldn’t be all that difficult considering that a lot of other studios and developers have done it already. It’s easy to follow a recipe and hit all features, but if you want to do something different, then you have to take some chance.

If you’re a gamer, then you probably played something in the lines of a vertical shooter until now or at least you’ve seen something related to this genre. It’s no secret how to play these titles, but the developers of Tungsten Valkyrie had something else in mind.

When you first open the game, you’re met with an interface that advises you to set three different kinds of controls. The thing is that you’re establishing the controls for three people that can and have to play this game together.

This is no ordinary game and requires three players to collaborate. It’s a more complicated scenario to put together, but it’s a sound strategy and a great idea. Tungsten Valkyrie is described as a bullet hell, which usually means that you’re going to face a lot of enemies that fire a large number of projectiles.

That doesn’t happen all that much in Tungsten Valkyrie, but the developers are still working on the game. The demo is not a representation of the final product so that things will change, and we can only hope that the graphics are one those.
