There are countless stories regard the Old West and the people that supposedly lived there back in the day, mainly because Hollywood has everyone believe that people basically shot each other on a regular basis. Not only that, but there were bandits, bank robbers and all sorts of other villains just strolling around the West, which is why courageous sheriffs and marshals were needed.
Tin Star is a text-based adventure game in which you are given the chance to experience a piece of the Old West for yourself, from the boots of a marshal trying to bring law and order to the worst towns out there. The whole point of the game is for you to make the desired choices and take the story in one direction or the other, so there are many possible endings to reach.
You can also customize your character through this decisions, because your stats are affected by what you choose to say or do. Not only that, but other characters may change their opinion of you after certain events, which is yet another way you can influence the story. The stats also affect your ability to succeed when it comes to various actions throughout the story.
Besides confronting outlaws and bringing the bad guys to justice, there are other things to fill your time with as well. Romance is one of them, and there are plenty of choices out there, some of which are more difficult to get than others. In fact, the writers say that there are over 1.3 million words included in the game, so you can play the game ten times without seeing the same events twice.
This is great news if you are an avid reader, especially since there are no graphics to talk about, which might be a bit of a drawback for the newcomers to the genre. Not being able to see the action yourself is not a very modern thing, but you can easily get over this aspect with enough patience. The story is definitely worth it, at least if you like Wild West flicks with outlaws and sheriffs.
Tin Star can easily keep you glued to the screen for hours on end, at least if you are a fan of text-based adventure games. Thus, you can have a lot of fun with it and go back many times to change the story.
