In this case, it’s all about a fictional Viking holiday powered by Thor, Loki, and a godly beverage that grants humans super powers.

As it happens, there is even a plot that tries to explain the action. In short, Thor organizes the event in order to entertain himself and the other gods, but he also resurrects the fallen humans to keep the party going, so no one actually gets hurt. Loki is as jealous as ever, on the other hand, which is why he randomly grants powerful items to the Vikings in the arena and significantly alters the outcome of the matches.

Since there is no way to stop your hero, you must pay close attention to his direction. Environmental objects can also cause you to destroy yourself, especially if you are moving fast enough. You can only take one hit, so each mistake can be fatal during the match. While the AI doesn’t really take advantage of your blunders, other human players can quickly exploit your mistakes.

It may not be that easy to do so, on the other hand. The controls are designed to be rather stiff and challenging, mainly to add a little bit of chaos to the formula. Hence, it takes a while to get used to the way your Viking reacts to input, but the accuracy increases significantly once you gain speed. Thus, the faster you are, the quicker your hero responds to commands.

In the end, Thunder League has a bright future ahead, especially if more customization options are included when it comes to maps and Vikings. Other than that, the idea is strong enough to attract a decent crowd once it is fully developed.
