Think To Die Early Access
Help your character die in order to pass the level in this challenging puzzle-platformer #Puzzle platformer #Adventure game #Retro platformer #Platformer #Puzzle #Solve
Platformers are about as straightforward as video games get, especially 2D ones that have you running from one end of the screen to the other. In essence, the goal is to make it to the end of the level alive and avoid all the traps in-between. However, this gets boring after a while, especially if you are a veteran of the genre and you’ve seen your share of the classics.
Think To Die is the exact opposite of a classic platformer, because the goal of each stage is for you to find a way to kill your character using the environment. There’s no story and no real purpose to your actions, but the levels are actually quite challenging, especially since you have to take a few moments to figure out a way to kill yourself in the middle of a seemingly harmless room.
Sometimes it’s enough to jump face first into a pit full of spikes, but other times there are no spikes in sight, which calls for some creativity. Hence, you can drop blocks on your head, activate buttons at the right time to crush yourself, as well as do a variety of other things just to watch your character explode. Granted, the gameplay is not very polished yet, so there might be some bugs to watch out for.
As mentioned before, each level is unique, but the things you have to do in order to end up dead are not very different. There are only so many ways to commit suicide, so it gets rather repetitive after a while. On the other hand, the different level layouts might make it tougher or easier to put certain plans into actions, but the truth is that you can only opt for a single method most of the time.
Hence, you are not as free as you might believe, which is a bit of a bummer. Being forced to find the exact solution to every level is not very fun in the long run, but this issue can be avoided if you don’t try to finish the whole game at once. The graphics are quite interesting, however, even if they look pretty rough at first.
All things considered, Think To Die still needs a lot of work in order to be thoroughly enjoyable, but it’s still a very fun experience, not to mention rather unique. There aren’t many games like it out there, so you might be able to get over a few design blunders just to enjoy the clever gameplay mechanics.
