The Weaponographist is a 2D arcade fighting game developed and published by a studio named Puuba.
Arcade fighting games have been around for a very long time, so The Weaponographist needs to be really good in order to succeed in such a busy genre. With that in mind, we can assure you that The Weaponographist is actually a nice and fun game, and it’s worth every penny.
It’s impossible to keep players interested in a game if it doesn’t have something special about it. In the case of The Weaponographist is the wacky and really good artwork that makes everything enjoyable. It’s clear that some very talented people have worked on the game, and it really shows.
Story and gameplay
The Weaponographist tells the story of Doug McGrave, a famous hunter that only works for money. He’s asked to help out a village that’s been overrun by demons, but he refuses because there’s no money in it. A powerful witch strips him of all his powers and wealth, so he has no other choice than to save the village.
The players take the character of Doug McGrave from scratch and begin fighting hordes of demons in order to regain all that he’s lost. The battles take place in procedurally generated levels, which also happen to include randomly placed enemies.
The enemies that you are facing have very well defined movements and attacks, with very few exceptions, so you know what to expect from them. The main character is controlled by either the WASD keys or the controller, but the way he attacks is a little bit different.
Players will most likely find the attacks to be poorly implemented, but they make sense after you’ve played the game for a while. You need to use the four button on the controller (or keyboard equivalent), meaning X, A, B, and Y to fire in the four directions. Even if Doug McGrave seems to move freely around the map, there are only four directions in which he can fire, so using all of the buttons to fire in different directions makes sense.
The demo version of The Weaponographist features only the first level (depth), but it will take a while to beat it.
