The Unwritten Critias & the Lost Island Demo

Finding the lost island of Atlantis is one of the greatest mysteries of the world, especially since there are countless books, movies and video games that touch on the subject. Writers usually have vastly different ideas of how the island would actually look like, and what kind of architecture could be found there, which is why almost every representation is different.

  The Unwritten Critias & the Lost Island is a first-person adventure game that allows you to tackle the greatest mystery in history, as well as put your imagination to the test with a few interesting puzzles. The whole thing revolves around exploration and quests, since you are free to get a feel of the game world on your own when you are not actively trying to complete missions and advance the story.   Although the game looks like a classic first-person experience at first, the controls and the interface are not quite as intuitive as you might hope. It takes a while to understand how everything works, mainly because you have to disable the free-look and the movement in order to interact with objects and enable the pointer. Other than that, the character movement feels a tad slow as well, but you can get used to this after a few minutes.

Even if the game encourages exploration in a way, it must be mentioned that there are many invisible walls in the demo that block your attempts to see more of the world. This could be just a demo issue, on the other hand, so there’s no need to panic just yet. However, the character movement is too awkward and slow sometimes as well, so more work is definitely needed in this regard.   As far as the graphics are concerned, the quality is certainly up there, but the optimization not so much. You experience frame drops in certain locations regardless of your computer, but then again this is a very early version, so performance issues are to be expected. The level design is gorgeous, on the other hand, so you definitely have plenty to look at along the way.

All things considered, The Unwritten Critias & the Lost Island is definitely a project worth keeping an eye on, especially if you enjoy adventure games.
