The Uncertain: Episode 1 - The Last Quiet Day Demo
See the cold logic of robots in action and witness the world as it would look like in the absence of humans #Adventure game #Point & click #Puzzle game #Sci-fi #Puzzle #Adventure
Modern robots are designed to handle certain tasks in our place, such as working in factories, or in conditions that are too harsh for humans. Naturally, they have no need for superintelligence to perform these duties, and it would actually be counterproductive to equip them with any kind of intelligence whatsoever. However, we are getting pretty close to producing simple AIs that are capable of learning by themselves.
The Uncertain: Episode 1 - The Last Quiet Day is a sci-fi point & click adventure game that presents you with a post-apocalyptic world in which humans went extinct, only to be replaced by self-aware robots that have taken over the world. In short, this is a story about how society would function when its members are cold logical machines that do not base their decisions on emotions or their current mood.
You play the role of an engineering robot by the name of RT-217NP, who is interested in the history of the human civilization and the reason it went extinct. The goal is to accomplish a few objectives and solve puzzles along the way, but exploration is an important part of the experience as well. Granted, the game is a bit cramped and small for exploration, but each scene contains a lot of detail and some information you can extract.
You are free to move around the game world using the classic WASD control scheme, which is pretty neat for a point & click title. However, item interaction is much less hands-on, since all you have to do is click on it and choose the desired action. It’s not a bad thing per se, on the other hand, and the puzzles are pretty engaging, if slightly too short and easy sometimes.
As for the graphics, the developers deserve some credit in this regard, because everything about the game looks incredible. Every room and every object in the game is very detailed, not to mention the great post-processing effects. The animations appear to be very smooth and natural, even if the characters are mechanical beings.
In the end, The Uncertain: Episode 1 - The Last Quiet Day is certainly worth a try from every sci-fi fan out there, especially if you enjoyed games like SOMA or The Talos Principle. However, there’s not a lot of content as of right now, at least until the rest of the episodes are released.
