The Trials of Olympus

Back in the day, gods were supposed to rule the world from up in the sky. In fact, the Greek gods built their kingdom on Mount Olympus, and they routinely interacted with the people who praised or angered them. However, some of these gods had flaws and weaknesses as well, the most common of which was the ability to fall in love with humans.

The Trials of Olympus is a match-three game in which you have to move various items around and try to match them together in order to score points and unlock more levels. There are various other missions to complete along the way as well, such as to get a specific item all the way to the bottom of the screen. This way, you can at least have some variety in regards to the gameplay.

There is even a story that talks about a disgraced Greek god by the name of Angelo. He made the mistake of falling in love with a common girl, which means that the other gods banished him from Olympus. In order to prove himself to a human king, Angelo must build a huge castle in an inaccessible swamp, while also fighting off a variety of dangerous enemies, such as titans.

Just like in every other match-three game out there, it is important to aim for the combos, because they multiply your winning and make it a lot easier to complete the levels. Speaking of which, your primary goal most of the time is to clear the highlighted cells, although there are obstacles making it more difficult than that it seems. As an example, some of the items are locked, and you need to match them twice in order to clear them.

Visually, the game is certainly colorful, there’s no question about that. Everything is as shiny and accessible as you might expect from the genre, especially when it comes to the effects displayed after you manage to score a decent combo. The soundtrack gets repetitive in a rush, but you can at least take comfort in the smooth mouse controls and the general lack of bugs.

In the end, The Trials of Olympus is not that different from any other match three game, but it sports a unique theme and quite the interesting story. Hence, if you are a fan of the genre and you would like to find out more about Greek mythology, this is a great way to do that.
