Wizards are used in both good and bad roles when it comes to fantasy stories, because their powers can be utilized in a variety of ways. Role-playing games are great when it comes to magic and sorcerers of all kinds, especially if they allow you to play as one and unleash a variety of powerful spells upon your enemies. On the other hand, they are also fierce villains if they happen to be on evil’s side.
The Stone Queen: Mosaic Magic is a nonogram game in which you get to create beautiful pixel artwork and solve a few other puzzles along the way. There are no new concepts at work when it comes to the core gameplay mechanics, but then again the formula is addictive enough as it is. Hence, the only goal is to complete every puzzle while making as few mistakes as possible.
In case you are not familiar with nonograms, they are basically just rows and columns that must be filled with the right color in order to obtain the correct drawing. Each row and column has a few numbers next to it, and these numbers tell you how to fill the tiles. The task gets harder and harder later on, given the fact that the patterns become more complex.
Every now and again you also stumble upon jigsaw puzzles that challenge you to put a few pictures back together as quickly as possible, which helps you break free of the monotony that settles after a few nonograms in a row. Granted, the jigsaw puzzles are fairly basic and somewhat annoying, given the fact that you can only see a handful of the missing pieces at once and the controls are not the best either.
Lastly, the graphics are nothing to write home about, but they are not bad either, depending on what your expectations are. For a mosaic puzzle game, they are actually fairly nice, and so is the pixel artwork you have to put together throughout the adventure. The music might get a tad too repetitive after a while, but then again it can be easily disabled from the options panel.
In the end, there are not many reasons to recommend The Stone Queen: Mosaic Magic unless you are an avid nonogram fan and you are out of material. However, it’s certainly a relaxing activity, so it can help if you want to take your mind off things. NOTE: This is a downloader for the game.
