The Sorceress Demo
Save the world from an undead invasion in this third-person RPG with hack & slash gameplay mechanics #Action RPG #Role-playing game #Adventure game #Adventure #RPG #Role-play
Creating a good RPG is not easy, especially nowadays, given the fact that there are so many exquisite examples out there already, such as Skyrim or The Witcher. Indie developers are not expected to create such complex games, on the other hand, but they should at least feature engaging mechanics and some new ideas when it comes to gameplay, otherwise it’s difficult to get excited about them.
The Sorceress is a third-person action-RPG with basic mechanics and a very simple gameplay formula, which is why it fails to make any kind of impression on the audience. On top of that, it also comes with an awful story, a terrible combat system and unintuitive controls, which make the experience that much worse. In fact, it’s difficult to find any good reasons to give the game a try, especially since you have to pay money for it.
To begin with, the story is as full of cliches as it is vague, because it would appear that everything revolves around the undead again. Hence, all sorts of skeletons and various other creatures rise up from the ground and start to terrorize the kingdom, killing most of the brave warriors who try to face them. Thankfully, a peasant girl has the power to change the world somehow, and you play her role.
You start by taking quest from the other villagers, such as moving barrels around or killing skeletons for the innkeeper, for some reason. Most of the quests are the same, on the other hand, so don’t expect anything good in this regard. The combat is nothing more than click and wait, although it’s actually very difficult to win encounters at first. To make things worse, the controls are terrible, especially since you have to press “I” in order to talk to other characters.
The whole interface is badly implemented, since you are always struggling to find the right key to open your inventory, view your character stats or simply add new spells to the quickbar. Not much can be said about the graphics, mainly because they are as simple as they can get under the circumstances, but at least they manage to create a nostalgic atmosphere, even if that probably wasn’t the plan.
In the end, The Sorceress has a boring story, annoying controls and a terrible combat system, which are great ways to make you stop playing after only a few minutes. It can probably be improved in some regards, but unfortunately it is difficult to believe that the whole game can be fixed and turned into something enjoyable.
