Getting to the bottom of a mystery is one of the most intense feelings a person can experience, depending on the magnitude of the discovery. Naturally, it’s a lot less exciting to find an old pot than it is to stumble onto the ruins of an ancient city, but every little discovery can change the world in one way or another.

The Secret Order: The Buried Kingdom is a hidden object adventure game in which your goal is to investigate mysteries and solve puzzles in order to advance the plot. It’s not a new formula, but you can have a lot of fun with it if you enjoy the classic HOPA gameplay and a light story. The graphics are quite marvelous as well, especially when it comes to level design.

As for the story, it all starts when the main character’s childhood friend is kidnapped in front of her eyes by some men. Naturally, you go on a quest to find and save her, but it turns out there’s more to the situation than meets the eye. Thus, you soon stumble upon a buried city full of ancient treasures and ruins, including live dragons and a few other interesting things.

Most of the game revolves around the classic “spot the interesting item” formula, which means that it can get pretty repetitive after a while, especially since every scene contains more or less the same kind of situations. However, the atmosphere is diversified by the occasional puzzle, which puts your mind to the test when it comes to solving riddles and problems.

The most exciting thing about the journey through the buried kingdom is the scenery, because the designers did a wonderful job by creating a dreamy world full of interesting vistas. Every scene is incredibly detailed and beautiful, and even the cutscenes are pretty riveting if you get past the stiff animations. The music is nothing to write home about, but it’s not annoying in the background either.

Even if The Secret Order: The Buried Kingdom brings nothing new to the genre in regards to gameplay, fans of the hidden object genre should be more than happy with the adventure. Not only that, but the gorgeous landscapes help you take your mind off things and find yourself in another world for a few hours.
