The Pedestrian Demo

Platformers might seem very similar at a glance, given the fact that most of them have the same purpose and gameplay mechanics that are alike. However, each one of them is different one way or the other, especially when it comes to controls and the overall experience. Even so, original ideas are hard to come by nowadays, depending on your preferences.

The Pedestrian is a very interesting and original puzzle-platformer, in which your goal is to help the stickman make it to the end of each level. The whole thing takes place inside various street or warning signs, which makes for a much more interesting experience. However, the actual gameplay is might enjoyable and challenging as well, not just the setting.

Although the action takes place on small panels that are black and white, the environments are actually quite rich and colorful, at least around the panels. Hence, whether you are in an elevator, an apartment or some kind of factory, everything is nicely decorated around you. You can link these panels in order to help your character cover great distances.

Speaking of which, the linking part is actually fairly important, because it’s your main method of exploration. Each panel comes with one or more connections you can use, and it’s important to arrange all of them in such a way as to make movement natural. Sometimes there are ladders, platforms and doors to make use of, and they must all be taken into consideration beforehand.

As for the graphics, they are surprisingly good looking for a platformer, not to mention clean and smooth. It can be difficult to make out some of the finer details sometimes, but these issues are bound to be solved by the time the full version is released. The soundtrack is fairly pleasant as well, and it goes well with the action on the screen.

All things considered, The Pedestrian is a breath of fresh air in the platformer genre, given the fact that it includes so many interesting ideas. However, it needs more work before it can provide the players with enough content to keep them busy for long enough.
