The Lost City of Malathedra Demo
A lot city filled with mystery and possible treasure awaits for your deep beneath the ground #Lost City #Puzzle game #Adventure game #Puzzle #Adventure #Malathedra
Lost cities have fascinated the curious human mind for centuries now, ever since the legend of Atlantis spread around the world. People are actively searching for entire civilizations that disappeared underwater, but there are many others out there as well, some of which might be real. Discovering a long-forgotten city is always good news for everyone as well, because science can deduce more about the human lifestyle back in the day, as well as the reason for the city’s disappearance.
The Lost City of Malathedra makes things as simple as possible and it allows you to penetrate the hidden metropolis from the first few minutes of the game and skipping the entire searching period. However, the exploration is a big part of the game and you certainly get to witness a lot of interesting things, even if they are presented in a rather crude and simplistic way by the game’s designers.
Being a top-down point-and-click adventure game, the story cannot feature too much action and suspense. In return, you have to rely on wits and logic in order to tackle the challenges waiting for you, although the riddles are not very complicated either. As you descend further and further into the city, the puzzles get more and more complex, while the storyline gets more intricate as well.
Regardless of how complex they get, the puzzles remain pointless and boring until the end, which is quite a shame, considering all the potential the story had, if it was told properly. Hence, you are stuck trying to ‘solve’ riddles that require you to carry a stone and a coconut to activate a pressure plate, which is not exactly exciting. Even if the task is more complicated than that, the reason and the method rarely are.
The visual quality is sketchy to say the least, although it shouldn’t matter too much in the case of a point-and-click adventure game. The designers tried to portray some interesting environments along the way, but most of the levels are empty and lacking in detail. Moreover, even the outdoor environments are featureless, except for the occasional tree.
All things considered, The Lost City of Malathedra is a bit too amateurish to provide anyone with a meaningful experience, regardless of how much you would like to support the indie developers. Moreover, the story itself is poorly told, with barely anything interesting going on and bad dialogue, not to mention the boring characters.
