The Legacy Games Demo

It would seem like developers have moved on from the classic combat system seen in RPGs up until a few years ago, which is why most modern role-playing games feature real-time combat based on combos and hand-to-eye coordination. However, turn-based battles are not entirely gone, given the fact that they still hold so much potential, especially for hardcore titles.

The Legacy Games is a turn-based role-playing game in which you control a party of heroes as you try to overcome a variety of tough environments and enemies. Unlike most RPGs nowadays, on the other hand, the combat is as difficult as it gets, given the fact that you really have to give it your all in order to come out alive, let alone win the encounters along the way.

There’s not much information on the rest of the game at this point, unfortunately, other than the fact that the action takes place in a dark fantasy world full of monsters and demons. You have six character classes to choose from, and the obvious goal is to combine their abilities once the combat begins. Some are better at attacking enemies head-on, while others are best kept at a distance to do other things, such as spells or healing.

Once the combat begins, every unit on the battlefield gets its chance to make a move. You have limited action points for every unit, and you have to decide whether it’s better to reposition them or make use of a special ability. The enemies do the same, and they are particularly tough, which is why The Legacy Games might not be very suitable for newcomers to the genre, unfortunately.

As far as the graphics are concerned, everything is kept to a minimum, including the artwork and the special effects. The isometric perspective is a great choice for the genre, but it would be nice to be able to zoom it at least a little bit. It’s worth mentioning that there’s a dynamic weather system as well, which can actually have an impact on the battles and your spells.

All things considered, The Legacy Games appears to be dedicated to the veterans of the genre, and it’s nice to see some turn-based action for a change. Hence, if you want to see more of it in the near future, you can support the developers by participating in their Kickstarter campaign.
