The Last DeadEnd Demo
A first-person survival game built with Unreal Engine 4 that offers an excellent atmosphere and more #First person horror #Explore ancient city #Indie horror #Horror #Explore #Baku
The Last DeadEnd, is this month's biggest surprise to come from an indie team. It’s a first-person horror title that looks very good and features an excellent atmosphere for a game of this nature. However, a big part of what makes it so is what it’s about and where it draws its inspiration from.
The first few minutes of gameplay left me pleasantly surprised of the great framerate I was getting for a UE4 game that had way above average graphics. In fact, at times The Last DeadEnd features more production value than a lot of well-known games, and that’s a big plus.
You don’t get a very clear notion of what’s going on in the demo. You’re some guy, in some town and obviously he, you, has to traverse the town through the darkness of the night. It’s the classic setup for a first-person horror game, but there are some very good turns to how things play out.
You could argue that the reason for why The Last DeadEnd looks so good is because it was built using Unreal Engine 4, and there is some truth to that. It’s a fantastic tool but in this case it was also put to good use. Most of what you see in the game actually exists, the modelling is done from real places, buildings, and even objects that fall into the details category. I don’t know what you consider a good effort in indie game development but in my book, this fact ranks pretty high up the list.
Another key ingredient to The Last DeadEnd is its atmosphere. It’s like the graphics, great. The audio, although wonderful feels repetitive at some point, but there are enough moments of gameplay that break that idea so it won’t count. The Last DeadEnd features some well-choreographed jumpscares.
One detail that is not mentioned in the game, or maybe it is in the text I couldn’t make out on the walls, but the story in The Last DeadEnd revolves around the Avesta. It’s a book that contains the sacred texts on which Zoroastrianism, an ancient religion, was based. The developers say that the main plot of the game has the protagonist on the search for mysterious artefacts that are mentioned in the holy book. Which, in turn makes one great premise to fill the game with interesting and fierce ghouls, monsters, and a lot more that can scare the daylight out of you.
Without a doubt, The Last DeadEnd shows a lot of promise. It has tons of potential. Download the demo, play it, enjoy it and then keep up with The Last DeadEnd news.
