The Hero of Kendrickstone Demo
Save the city of Kendrickstone in this text-based adventure game with many possible endings #Text-based adventure #Role-playing game #Adventure game #Adventure #Text-based #Role-play
Role-playing games have taught us that simple people can become heroes and save entire worlds by themselves with the right attitude, especially in fantasy flicks where magic speeds things along in certain regards. However, it’s never easy to survive the adventure, even if your hero gets the mightiest armors and weapons along the way.
The Hero of Kendrickstone is not much of an original concept in the world of role-playing games, given the fact that it features many of the same concepts you might be used to after many years spent hunting dragons and ogres. However, the text-based interface and interesting choice system allow you to have a much better grip over the story and the development of your character, even if everything takes place in your imagination.
To begin with, there are many skills and options for your character, depending on whether you want to master the art of physical combat with swords and shields, or you are more inclined to use magic as your preferred weapon. Every scene allows you to pick an approach, so other character traits are improved along the way, depending on your choices.
Being a hero is not required, on the other hand, since you can also play as a pretty bad guy and choose to help yourself instead of the city or other people. You can befriend bandits and various other nefarious characters, as well as forget all about saving Kendrickstone. Multiple playthroughs are a must if you want to see every possible outcome, even if the experience gets a bit stale after a while.
There is no interface to speak of, given the fact that this is a text-based game, but you can always check up on your skills and achievements. Thus, it’s possible to keep an eye on your skill progression, although it’s fairly obvious which action is going to improve a particular skill. The lack of graphics might be a bit annoying sometimes, but it’s part of the genre’s charm.
All things considered, The Hero of Kendrickstone does not try very hard in terms of original ideas, but it can be a wonderful adventure if you like classic fantasy stories. The multiple possible endings allow you to get a lot of fun out of the game.
