The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea Demo
Work on a cruise ship and help your character deal with weird situations in this interactive visual novel #Visual novel #Adventure game #Role-playing game #Adventure #Role-play #Novel
Cruise ships have evolved quite a lot in the last few decades, since they are now capable of holding thousands of people, while also featuring facilities like pools, hotels and restaurants. You can actually buy an apartment on a cruise ship that goes around the world non-stop, at least if you have enough money. However, things can go pretty bad sometimes, and there are plenty of examples.
The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is an interactive visual novel that puts you in the role of a young girl working on a cruise ship as a member of the catering crew. You get to choose the protagonist’s name at the beginning of the story, as well as make choices every now and again that affect the course of the plot and the ending you reach when it is all over, so the replay value is definitely good.
Your character works on a luxurious cruise ship called the M.S. Andromache, and as luck has it, the ship is supposed to retrace the route of its sister ship, S.S. Cassandra, which disappeared a hundred years ago in the Bermuda Triangle. Naturally, things start to get spooky with the current ship as well, so the protagonist must deal with some pretty weird things beside the annoying passengers.
As mentioned before, your can make choices that affect the course of the story, and it’s also possible to reach multiple endings depending on these choices. In fact, there are eight available endings, which means that you can get quite a bit of play time out of the game. Not only that, but there are also three romantic routes, depending on what partner you pick along the way.
Last but not least, the graphics are fairly nice as well, especially when it comes to the characters. The backgrounds are not bad either, but they can be a tad simple and repetitive sometimes, even if you are most likely paying more attention to the text than the landscapes. There are only eight CGs in the demo as well, so maybe more are going to be added once the full version is out.
Even if The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is rather short at the moment, it’s fairly intriguing, especially since it mixes romance with unexplained phenomena. Hence, it’s worth a shot if you are a fan of the genre.
