The Blackwell Epiphany

Announced over an year ago, the last chapter of the Blackewell series finally makes its way to PC. The Blackwell Epiphany is meant to be longer, darker and more atmospheric than any of the previous games.

The ultimate battle

The main protagonists of the story are Rosangela Blackwell, a young woman who can see and talk to ghosts, and Joey Mallone, a ghost from the 1930s. They're mission is to cure the city of New York from a supernatural illness.

It all starts with a phone call from Detective Durkin, who asks you to meet him at the Karth House which is an abandoned hotel. After being left in ruins, it quickly became a popular place for homeless people and drug addicts, yet at this time is seems the place is deserted.

After a half an hour in the winter cold, Durkin calls and announces that you should carry the investigation without him. Make your way inside the building and talk to the woman ghost who calls herself Mary. You soon find out that you're dealing with some stronger forces, a dark presence that's capable of ripping a person's soul in half in order to get its way.

One game, two characters

The Blackwell Epiphany plays out as a classic point and click adventure game. You will be able to control both the medium Rosa, and the ghost Joey. Teaming up, they will be able to complement each others abilities. Rosa can use physical objects, while Joey can scout ahead and warn her of any potential threat. Joey also has a wind blowing ability and a blue tie he can use to make spirits advance further and leave our world.

You will be able to collect items and place them in your inventory so you can later use. The inventory can be easily accessed by scrolling the mouse to the top of the gameplay area. You can also access your smartphone, a useful tool when you want to call for help or to search something.

A grand finale to a great series

The Blackwell has retro-looking graphics which can be a plus for people who love retro gaming or a downside for those who always expect top-notch visual quality. I think the graphics are best suited for the game and allow the players to transport themselves to the 80s New York city. The audio also contributes to the games amazing atmosphere.

The fifth episode tries to put an end to the thriller adventure game and what better way than to give Rose and Joey the fight of their lives?
