That Is My Sheep Demo

Endless runners are designed to be as addictive as possible, not to mention difficult, otherwise players get bored along the way. It’s not easy to keep people engaged when the environments never really change that much, but you can add other elements to liven things up. However, there’s no shortage of ideas in the genre, especially from indie developers.

That Is My Sheep is an upcoming endless runner with a funny twist on the subject, in which you play the role of a cowboy who has to get his sheep back using a lasso. To make things even worse, he has to do all this in a deep jungle for some reason, which is why there are all sorts of wild animals attacking you along the way. Thus, the challenge is that much tougher, given all the attacks you have to avoid.

It all starts when a horde of wildebeest break into your sheep enclosure and break the fence, so all the sheep run away. The cowboy must capture them using his lasso, which is how you increase your score. However, the cowboy also has a shotgun that can be used to shoot the wild animals attacking him along the way, although it’s important not to shoot the sheep as well.

Every now and again you can also stumble upon a power-up that allows you to slow down time and easily avoid the traps along the way. The mechanics are not very refined at this point, so the slow-motion sequences can be a tad boring. Thankfully, the difficulty level increases along the way and keeps you engaged, at least until the experience gets too repetitive.

The poor graphics have a lot to do with this, because the backgrounds never change in the demo and the animals you encounter are always the same. The animations are very basic and annoying too, so the whole thing looks more like an unrefined Flash game than anything else. That’s not necessarily a problem, but it is fairly difficult to accept in a game that’s currently ongoing a Kickstarter campaign.

Even if That Is My Sheep is quite fun at first, it quickly loses its appeal because of the repetitive environments and lack of variety in regards to gameplay mechanics. However, the game certainly has potential, so you can support the project by contributing to the Kickstarter campaign.
