Territory Defense
Protect the flags from being stolen in this first-person shooter designed for the Oculus Rift HMD #First-person shooter #Vr fps #Vr shooter #Shooter #First-person #Shoot
First-person shooters are pretty difficult to innovate nowadays, especially those designed for multiplayer. After so many games over the past few decades, almost everything has been tried out when it comes to gameplay mechanics and game modes. However, the virtual reality technology should change all that, given the fact that it’s a drastic change of perspective.
Territory Defense is a fast-paced first-person shooter in which your goal is to defend a couple of flags from enemy soldiers by shooting those who get too close. Granted, the project is still in its infancy, so the demo at hand is very rough and unpolished. However, there’s certainly potential here, even if there’s nothing new under the sun when it comes to gameplay.
You cannot even choose from multiple game modes, which is obviously extremely disappointing for a new age shooter. On the other hand, you get to feel much closer to the action and become one with the environment, although not even that is very impressive at the moment. To make matters worse, the action is very fast-paced, much like in Quake or Unreal Tournament, which is a big no-no for virtual reality.
The quick movement speed and the general fast pace of the game make it very difficult to remain concentrated, especially if you have trouble with motion sickness already. Since this is a shooter and you must calculate your shots, it’s very annoying to be unable to play because you’re feeling nauseous. You can sit still and try to take your targets down from a distance, but that’s not always an option.
As far as the graphics are concerned, the game is designed in Unreal Engine 4, so there’s certainly enough potential in this regard. However, the level design is way to simple and unimpressive at the moment, which means that the developer did not take full advantage of what the engine has to offer.
All things considered, the future certainly looks bright, but it’s not because of Territory Defense, at least not in this form. Still, the game could into something much better in the future, at least if all the mistakes are evened out.
