Co-op games are tons of fun if you have a few friends to join you, especially competitive ones that reward teamplay and good coordination. Granted, it’s not easy to design a game that takes all of these elements into account, especially in the case of online titles, where delay and connection issues are sometimes difficult to overcome.

Team Racing League is a top-down racing sim with simple controls and a focus on cooperative gameplay, since the whole point of the game is for teams to work together and prevent the opponents from doing the same. It’s impossible to race on your own and leave your teammates behind, since you are not awarded a win unless the whole team crosses the finish line first.   The top-down perspective means that the simulation is not exactly state of the art, especially since the vehicles use what appear to be rockets in order to move around the tracks. You can connect your hovercrafts in order to stay together, but other special abilities are available too. Hence, you can use the anchor mode, block the road, as well as jump around to get the upper hand during the races.

The tracks are fairly short, but they are definitely tricky to learn properly, especially when you can cut so many corners. The fact that you are constantly slowed down by your opponents complicates things even further. On the other hand, if you decide to practice by yourself and go around the tracks alone you can notice just how simple everything looks.   Speaking of which, the graphics are very smooth and clean, as well as somewhat minimalistic in certain regards. You can tell this is an indie development, but then again, you rarely have time to admire the view, given the fast pace of the game. The soundtrack features retro tunes as well, so the overall atmosphere should be quite memorable and enjoyable in the long run.

In the end, Team Racing League is clearly not designed for hardcore racing fans, but it’s the perfect way to have a lot of fun with your friends in multiplayer. Hence, it definitely deserves a place in your library if you like casual experiences.
