Tank Spank is a top-down arcade shooter in which you have to defeat your enemies using a variety of power-ups and sleight of hand. The gameplay mechanics are as simple as they can get, but they are quite effective and addictive, not to mention simple to learn. On the other hand, it might take you a while to get really good at it, especially if you want to defeat the AI on the hardest setting.

There are multiple game modes to choose from, and they can all be enjoyed in local co-op, because the game supports up to four controllers at once. Whether you want to annihilate your friends in a free-for-all, or you want to cooperate with them in order to defend against endless hordes of monsters, Tank Spank comes with everything you need to have a lot of fun.

The maps on which the action takes place are riddled with power-ups as well, which are actually just different weapons that deal more damage. Plasma cannons and flamethrowers are just some of the available options, and you can also pick up health packs to stay in the fight for as long as possible. The aiming system is a bit off, on the other hand, especially if you happen to use a mouse and keyboard.

As for the graphics, the game is as colorful as it gets under the circumstances, which is great news if you do not mind the lack of realism. Granted, this is not the type of title that promises convincing ballistics or a great physics engine, so it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s recommended to use a controller, because the keyboard controls are not exactly enjoyable.

In the end, Tank Spank does not revolutionize anything about the genre, but it’s fun enough to keep you and your friends entertained for a few hours. Moreover, the multiple game modes should extend the fun even more, especially the survival one that requires good cooperation.
