Tale of Hero Demo
Fantasy tales of elves, orcs and giants would be nothing it it weren’t for the courageous heroes that go against all odds in order to save the world from evil, rescue a damsel in distress, or just slay a dragon every once in a while. Tale of Hero might seem to be the same at a first glance, but it soon turns out to be a tad different, since it comes with some pretty neat ideas regarding the true motives and means of a hero.
In the beginning, the game presents itself as any other fantasy title would, by showcasing an unlikely hero, a small town terrorized by a giant and a bunch of disgruntled townsfolk that want revenge on the beast that steals their food. The main character happens to be the one they choose to handle the task, which means that he soon finds himself more or less thrown into the cave that serves as the giant’s hideout.
Being a point-and-click adventure game, you should not worry about having to display quick reflexes or take part in vicious battles against monsters, since all you need to do is click on objects, find useful items and combine them together in order to achieve your goal. In this scenario, your purpose is to kill the giant and help the villagers sleep in peace, knowing that the threat is no longer looming over them.
The game makes up for the lack of a professional development process by trying to impress through witty dialogue and interesting puzzles, which require more than a bit of tinkering to figure out and solve. Surprisingly, it manages to do just that, since you can definitely have a wonderful time reading the dialogue between the characters and trying to think of a way to combine a ladle, a pumpkin and a vase full of delicious wine.
Technically, you probably won’t be amazed or set aback by the quality of the pre-rendered graphics, although it can be quite clearly seen that the designers took their sweet time drawing and modeling the environments. Every little object has received plenty of care, which means that the game world looks convincing and even welcoming. The atmosphere is improved by the background sounds as well, not to mention the voice-acted dialogues that keep the plot going.
All things considered, Tale of Hero is the type of game that sticks with you for a while after you go through it, since it seems to strike all the right points along the way. Moreover, the story is mighty interesting and the plot takes plenty of unexpected twists and turns to keep you wondering about what comes next.
