TRON RUN/r Demo

TRON is one of the most well-known sci-fi universes out there, especially since it had so many spin-offs over the years, not to mention video games inspired by it. Some of these games enjoyed quite a bit of popularity, but there’s always room for one more, at least if it’s worthy to carry the franchise’s name. On the other hand, you would think that it’s pretty simple to at least get the proper TRON visuals, if nothing else.

TRON RUN/r is a runner in which you have to navigate treacherous levels at dizzying speeds and try to use your special abilities to neutralize the obstacles you cannot dodge in time. The formula is not at all original, but at least it’s the first game to use TRON as a theme. Hence, if you played other runners before you should be able to figure things out from the first try.

The campaign helps you learn the basics by providing you with a tutorial in the beginning, not to mention the friendly difficulty curve that allows you to survive the first couple of levels even if you are new to the genre. Speaking of which, the whole point is to dodge obstacles by either moving out of the way, shooting them to bits, or jumping over them. Naturally, you cannot stop running, which is the main idea in a runner.

Although there are not too many levels to tackle, you can extend the experience by joining a STREAM mode in multiplayer. This provides you with endless combinations of levels and modes to prove your abilities, and it’s that much more fun to do it with friends. Granted, you can also compete with complete strangers, depending on your preferences.

As for the graphics, there’s nothing to complain about in this regard, especially since the game runs on Unreal Engine 4. Hence, everything from the animations, to textures and post-processing effects look great, although the nice level design helps as well. On top of that, the soundtrack features names like Giorgio Moroder and Autechre, so it’s definitely worth a listen.

In the end, TRON RUN/r certainly has potential, even if it can get a bit repetitive sometimes. However, you can always try new power-up combinations and try to beat your own records.
