Synthesis Universe -Maze- Intro Experience

The greatest video games of all were those that featured a unique universe and a new set of rules, one that differed almost entirely from anything else out there. As you might expect, it is quite difficult to achieve something like that, but even a single clever mind can open your eyes to new ideas and possibilities. All it takes is the drive to put such ideas into practice.

Synthesis Universe -Maze- Intro Experience is more of a presentation than a video game, because it’s not actually interactive in any way. Granted, you can look around using your Oculus Rift device, but there’s no way to move as of yet. On the other hand, the world presented in the demo is quite intriguing, especially since it does not really resemble anything else out there.

As such, everything takes place sometime in the future, when technology is a lot more advanced. The civilization that resides on the planet you are on decides to reactivate the main robot manager from their city, except that things do not go as planned. Instead, something else grew and evolved in their city in the meantime, which is how the plot takes off.

As mentioned before, the demo is not interactive, but it should be quite interesting to see how the gameplay unfolds in the final version. According to the developer, the game cannot be released until the VR controllers arrive on the market, because it would break immersion. On top of that, it would appear that the civilization you stumble upon communicates through music and visual cues, which hints at something pretty engaging and new.

Unfortunately, the demo at hand is too short and not very polished in regards to quality and VR-related annoyances. It’s a bit too dark and difficult to tell what’s going on most of the time, and you certainly wouldn’t guess any of the story if you do not check up on the official description from the developer.

Synthesis Universe -Maze- Intro Experience is not much of anything at this point, but there’s certainly a great deal of potential in the concept. Thus, if the developers keep improving it and the final version is much more refined, this could actually be a great game.
