Whenever the adventure genre is mentioned, a few classic names usually come up, including The Longest Journey and the Monkey Island series. However, the subject is quite vast and it certainly includes a lot of different approaches, especially when it comes to story and the universe in which the events unfold.

Syberia can also be considered one of the classics of the genre, mainly because it managed to impress the audience through a very well-written story, clever puzzles and the fascinating world in which all of this happens. The events take you through a variety of locations, each one of which holds its own mysteries and has a specific feeling attached to it.

At its core, the game uses classic a point-and-click interface, although you can also get to view the main character, Kate Walker, from a third-person perspective. Thus, she is never out of your sight and you can easily create a connection with her, especially since the atmosphere gets pretty intense at times and the missions are always dangerous, even if you cannot actually die at any point throughout the game.

One thing that truly stands out at the game is its graphical presentation, since the combination of environments and ideas gives birth to the most interesting objects and landscapes along the way. Hence, while the steampunk theme is responsible for amazing automatons and a train engine that functions using gears, the nature environments are also breathtaking, especially when snow is the predominant element decorating the settlements.

While the puzzles are not extremely difficult at any point, they do pose quite the challenge from time to time, even if the answers are always logical and rewarding. Moreover, every riddle has something to do with the situation you currently find yourself in, even if that might get a bit unclear sometimes. Overall, a lot of good work went into the puzzles and they certainly do not disappoint.

Syberia should leave its mark on you, especially if you enjoy stories and long adventures that take you to unexpected places. The characters stick with you for a long time and you can definitely see them coming back to continue the journey.
