There are sports and activities that are not available for everyone, whether because they require very expensive equipment, or because you need to travel a lot. Surfing is definitely one of these sports, mainly because you need access to a shoreline, which is something most people do not have. Not every shore is right for surfing, given the fact that a certain type of wave is required.

Surf World Series is a simulator that allows you to experience the joy of surfing without spending a lot of money or going too far from home. Granted, the simulation aspect is pretty mellow, but the developers have banked a lot on the fun factor instead, so you should be able to have a good time with the game. There are many challenges to overcome as well.

The game allows you to travel to the most famous surfing beaches out there, so there’s no shortage of great waves to ride. As for the gameplay, it may appear to be quite simple at first, but things get tough once you try to perform a few tricks. Thus, a lot of the time you are just trying to stay upright and avoid going under the water, even if most of the process is automated.

There are six different characters to choose from, and you also have the possibility to customize your character and come up with a different surfing style. Speaking of which, the tricks you perform reward you with points, and the goal is to score more points than your opponents in order to win the competitions. All sorts of gravity-defying tricks are available, some of which are more difficult to pull off than others.

As far as the graphics are concerned, they are definitely a sight to behold, even if there’s usually not much to see, other than water and your surfer. Granted, the post-processing effects are gorgeous, especially since you get to ride the waves at sunset in a variety of tropical environments. The music is not bad either, but the tracks are far from memorable, unfortunately.

In the end, Surf World Series is a very fun game with great graphics, even if it lacks substance in the gameplay department most of the time. Hence, it’s greatest feat is the fact that there are not many similar games out there, so it has its own niche to exploit.
