Superstatic

Using experimental brain enhancing drugs on a guy and then planning to kill him because he seems a bit ‘uncooperative’ is rarely a good idea. And so the story begins in Superstatic where you play a guy who has been pumped with extra fancy brain juices and can now control the minds of anyone he sees, making revenge a whole lot more interesting.

In Superstatic you play as a guy who has a few tricks up his sleeve. Apart from controlling enemies, he can detonate every human within a certain radius, he can create clones of himself and can also teleport. That sounds more than enough to be able to sneak your way through each level, killing left and right without breaking a sweat.

However, that’s not the case. Superstatic is designed to be fun while also being a bit tough. Controls are easy to master and gameplay uses simple but well implemented mechanics that leave you a lot of options when it comes to how you want to handle things. Each level has one entry and one exit points but between them, there are a lot of ways you can wipe out the enemy.

One of the many things Superstatic does right is that it pushes you to be extra careful. One bullet is enough to take out an enemy and vice versa. You’re no Neo, you can’t stop bullets so you need to think things through, mind the limited ammo and predict AI behaviour when things go down.

As far as top-down shooters go, this one is coming along really well. It looks good, gameplay is smooth and the audio is just great, tracks and sound effects. It really is a captivating little game in which the action keeps you hooked and determined to reach the end.

On a closing note, Superstatic is precisely the opposite of static, but it is super, or at least it's very close. When it will be completed it will have around 20 chapters and will support modding. The latter is a nice touch since being able to upgrade the AI will make it quite the challenging game to play.
