Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes nowadays, some more useful than others. Although series like Watchmen portrayed them as mature figures with flaws and rough edges, the classic superhero image is still that of Superman, the protector of all that is good. Hence, if the target audience happens to be children, all you need is a cape and some sort of unusual power.

Super Moose is an arcade action-adventure game in which you play the role of a funny moose with superpowers, whose task is to rescue animals in need and deal with the dangers of the forest. He’s not your typical hero, on the other hand, because he looks disoriented and rather silly, not to mention unable to save himself from the perils of having bad taste in fashion.

As such, he wears the traditional cape and a rather imposing pair of underpants, which are actually the centerpiece of the entire outfit. His superpowers are rather vague, but he does seem able to run rather fast, not to mention the fact that he can use his antlers to hit enemies. Speaking of which, the violence is kept to a minimum and you do not have to worry about gore or anything too traumatic.

Your goal is to simply run really fast through the levels before the time runs out while collecting fruit and avoiding the traps. Every now and again you might meet an animal in need for help, but not even that changes the fact that you still have to keep running. After a while, the environments get repetitive, and it becomes a chore to just run without a clear purpose.

A few enemies get in your way every once so often, but they can be easily dealt with in a few seconds. The greatest foe is time, however, because the game ends when you run out of time. The traps render the moose unable to move for a few seconds if you happen to run into them, which is why they are so annoying. They become simple to avoid after a while, especially since the collision engine is far from flawless.

All things being equal, Super Moose is not a brilliant game, and it probably won’t be anyone’s first choice when it comes to playing something. On the other hand, it is pretty relaxing, and you small children might find the hero’s attitude and looks quite funny.
