Stones Throw Demo

While certainly fun, skipping stones is not as easy as it might look. Not only do you need to master the technique, but you're also not going to get too many bounces if the stone isn’t just the right shape.

Stones Throw is a casual game that brings a competitive version of stone skipping to your desktop. It includes multiple well-designed levels, features simple controls and even comes with day/night cycles.

A Practice mode is available if you want to get accustomed to the controls, but it shouldn’t take more than a couple of throws to figure out how everything works. Essentially, you only need to point the camera in the right direction and set the stone’s speed and rotation.

If anything, the controls are a bit too simple, but this is perhaps the best approach for a game that is designed to be relaxing, not frustrating. Stones Throw is a lot like golf, as even the rules are quite similar.

There are a fair number of courses included, although not all are available in the demo version. Certain items, such as trees and grass, are randomized whenever a level is loaded.

As you would probably expect, the water looks great, and you can also enable some optional wet camera effects from the game’s settings. While you’re here, you may also want to try changing the time of day to see how the courses look at dawn, midday or after sunset.

On the whole, Stones Throw is a casual game that allows you to enjoy a simplified version of stone skipping from the comfort of your computer chair. It's a pretty basic game that isn't going to blow your mind, but the graphics are crisp, the background music is soothing, and the controls are very straightforward.
