Stitch's Adventure Demo
Collect colorful blobs and avoid the patrolling enemies in this short retro platformer #Lilo and stitch #Retro platformer #Arcade platformer #Stitch #Adventure #Arcade
There are many reasons one could decide to develop his own game, none of which should be of anyone’s concern. However, it helps if the said indie developer is open to criticism, because it is difficult to see the flaws in the things you have done yourself. The opinion of others can be of great use to those who want to develop better products for the audience.
Stitch's Adventure is at least similar to a 2D platformer, because it lacks most elements to be considered a proper entry in the genre. It revolves around a character by the name of Stitch, who is actually part of the animated series called Lilo and Stitch. His task is to get to the end of the level and score as many points as he can along the way, although that’s more of a theoretical purpose than a practical one.
The first thing everyone notices when first running a game is the graphics, as it’s only natural. Sure, the visual appearance may not matter in certain cases and some people can do without flashy graphics most of the time, but there are limits. One of these limits is making the main character appear as a simple image, complete with a black box around him. No animations, no sprite, no nothing.
As previously mentioned, the other part of the gameplay is represented by the fact that you can collect what appear to be colorful brush strokes in order to increase your score. There’s no indication regarding what these blobs are or what’s their use, but it probably would matter anyway. To make matters worse, the gameplay mechanics are glitchy as well, especially since the scrolling speed is phenomenally slow and you cannot see what hides near the edge of the screen until it's too late.
Although there is only one level you can play, it’s enough to convince you that nothing good can come out of this particular game. If it did, then the final product wouldn’t have anything to do with this version, because it would be like saying that chicken are dinosaurs: Technically true, but the two creatures are just very different at this point in time and the comparison is pointless.
It is quite obvious that Stitch's Adventure is basically a beginner’s project and first adventure into game development, which is commendable. However, maybe such creations shouldn’t be presented on the Internet until you are a bit more confident in your skills, because there’s no point in making your entire learning process public.
