A first-person shooter set in the Star Trek universe that allows you to play as a Klingon soldier #Klingon Honor #Star Trek #The Next Generation #Klingon #Honor #Guard
Star Trek: The Next Generation is still one of the most revered TV series ever aired, with millions of fans worldwide and a cult following that spawns everything from conventions, to fan-fiction and video games. However, there are plenty of triple-A productions out there as well, some of which did a really good job at portraying the universe and providing the players with a fun experience.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Klingon Honor Guard is a first-person shooter that allows you to be a part of the Star Trek craze and play as a member of the Klingon race. You also happen to be an assassin tasked with killing Chancellor Gowron, which serves as the main storyline and keeps you motivated throughout the campaign.
As far as the core mechanics are concerned, the game does not try to be too original, since it plays out very similar to titles like Doom or Unreal Tournament, which is to be expected, considering the fact that it uses the same engine as the latter. On the other hand, there are some differences that set it apart, which are mostly visible when it comes to level design and the arsenal you get to wield.
Being a sci-fi production and a Star Trek-inspired adventure, it should be no wonder that the guns you stumble across are pretty exotic, not to mention gruesome. Thus, the selection of weapons includes grenade launchers, black hole spawners and even an ingenious contraption that fires a single projectile, which returns to you after a few seconds and basically kills everything it comes in contact with along the way.
As previously mentioned, the game uses the first Unreal Engine, which means that it looked pretty well at the time of its release. It may not look like much right now, but the models and the special effects were pretty impressive at the time. Moreover, the voice acting is good and the soundtrack is in tune with the franchise, albeit a little repetitive here and there.
In the end, Star Trek: The Next Generation: Klingon Honor Guard may not be a very revolutionary first-person shooter, but the game is by no means bad and you can certainly have a lot of fun with it, especially if you are a fan of the TV series. Moreover, the mission are long and in great numbers, which should keep you occupied for quite a while.
