Splatter - Blood Red Edition Demo
Shot your way through waves of enemy zombies in this film-noir singleplayer game #Splatter game #Fight zombies #2D top down shooter #Splatter #Zombies #2D
Splatter - Blood Red Edition is a 2D top-down shooter that features an engaging narrative, zombies, and a lot of blood.
If developers do everything by the book is difficult to go wrong with a zombie game. This kind of enemy is present is so many games that is has become the natural antagonist. Since everyone is fantasizing about a zombie apocalypse, it seems that it’s some sort of a hidden desire. On the other hand, playing games in which you survive a zombie apocalypse is much easier that actually doing it, so we’ll settle with just that.
It’s also worth noting that Splatter - Blood Red Edition is hardly the first 2D top-down shooter that has zombies for enemies, but it’s one of the few that went through the trouble of providing some background for the main character. In fact, in a great action game, even if it’s played from a rather unusual perspective.
It’s impossible not to look at the intro for Splatter - Blood Red Edition and not notice that resemblance with the Max Payne comics. I’m not sure if that was the intention of the developers from Dreamworlds, but it happened.
The developers are also saying that Splatter - Blood Red Edition features a film-noir singleplayer campaign, so that might be an explanation for the Max Pain look-alike scenes. Even the narration has something of Sam Lake.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward. You control a character from a top-down perspective, and you advance through the levels trying to survive the zombie horde. You start with just a gun, but you soon find other weapons, which are more powerful.
The player also finds money, which can be used to upgrade the weapons in the inventory, making them more powerful or more precise. The levels are full of secret areas, switches that turn on the lights in darker zones, exploring barrels that make life a lot easier, and so on.
It a fun game to play, with nice lighting effects and rendered textures. The zombies seem to explode from the bullets, and it’s really satisfying dispatching them. The demo is not very long, but even so it was a joy to play it.
