Speedball 2 Tournament takes a wild stab in the dark and envisions a future where two teams of heavily-armored players play a much more violent version of handball, complete with brutal tackles, an electrified ball and some sort of portals that can teleport the objects thrown into them. However, there are still rules that dictate the pace of the match, although they only regard the score and certainly not the amount of violence the players are allowed to display on the pitch.

The game provides you with multiple modes to choose from in the beginning, depending on how familiar you are with it and how long you want your session to be. Hence, it is possible to just practice or play a single Knockout game, as well as go for lengthy tournaments and play multiple matches against a variety of teams. Speaking of which, the teams themselves can be customized and adjusted to fit your requirements. The length and various rules can also be set up before starting the match and they allow you to make the experience as pleasant as possible.

Although the sport is almost entirely made up and the rules can be a bit blurry from time to time, the matches are definitely enjoyable and incredibly entertaining. Moreover, it is quite easy to pick up and play, since you only need to move the players around the pitch and use the mouse to throw the ball around. You can strike various combos and power-ups, but they are much more fun to witness when you least expect them and just let yourself be a part of the violence in the meantime.

The AI is not exactly top class, but it certainly tries its best and it can give you a few headaches, especially in the beginning. The chaotic gameplay is also kind of hard to swallow from time to time, since it is possible to get stuck in a loop of tackle/recovery, with the only way to get out being for one of the players to give up the ball. However, this rarely happens and it certainly isn't a major problem anyway.

Speedball 2 Tournament is quite different from everything else out on the market and it can be the source of hours upon hours of fun. The fact that it supports multiplayer and a variety of game modes should further increase its attractiveness, especially if you want a new fun activity to enjoy with your online friends.
