Space Thinger Demo
Battle alien spaceships and collect various artifacts in this fast-paced space shooter with arcade gameplay mechanics #Space shooter #Shoot 'em up #Mine asteroid #Space #Shooter #Shoot
Space shooters are usually pretty fast-paced, because you would assume that spaceships move rather quickly in order to cover the huge distances. Hence, avoiding obstacles is just as important as it is to shoot at the enemies, otherwise you can meet your end by simply crashing into some sort of space debris, such as an asteroid cruising through space.
Space Thinger is a space shooter in which your primary objectives are to fight other ships and mine resources from asteroids. Dogfights are pretty exciting and thrilling, especially when you are outnumbered and you have to deal with with much larger ships. There are secondary objectives as well, such as to pick up alien artifact debris and extract useful technology from them.
There is no actual story to talk about, but it’s not that big of an issue anyway. The action is almost incessant, which means that you won’t have time to think about what to do. Each type of enemy has special weapons and attacks, so that you have to change your approach as well. Obviously, you can also play with all sorts of ships, depending on your personal preferences when it comes to design.
In between the tough dogfights, you also get a chance to purchase upgrades for your ship, such as better weapons and thicker shields. Naturally, these upgrades cost you a bit of currency, but you almost cannot survive the later missions if you do not improve your own ship. There is no other use for the upgrade materials other than to use them on your spaceship.
As far as the visual quality is concerned, the game uses Unity to render beautiful space scenes. The ships are pretty detailed and interesting as well, as are the particle effects that decorate the screen during a battle. Even the sound design is pretty decent, especially the soundtrack, which comes in classical and synth versions. Whether you want a Star Wars vibe or not, the music does its job when it comes to the mood.
In the end, Space Thinger is not exactly brilliant, but given the fact that it was designed by a very small indie studio, this is certainly pretty well polished. The lack of a proper story and a more complex universe is indeed a minus, but the action is more or less engaging in the long run.
