Space Exterminate Demo
You are the last hope of humanity and you must exterminate the alien pests that are threatening us #Space shooter #Sidescrolling shooter #2D shooter #Sidescrolling #Shooter #Space shooter
Space Exterminate is a 2D side-scrolling shooter that’s not all that attractive, but that has some interesting artwork.
Side-scrolling shooters have a long and proud tradition, so when you are building a new game in this genre, you are going to be compared with all of the great ones. There is no escape from that. Space Exterminate cannot stand to any direct comparison because it’s bland and uninteresting.
To be fair, the developer Enrique Torres said that this is only work in progress, and we really like to believe him. The reason is that Space Exterminate has some very interesting artwork, but the developer needs an animator to do the rest of the work. It has some promise, but it won’t become the next best thing.
There is no doubt that games like this one would benefit from some kind of story line to make it more palatable, but we only have a few words from the developer. He says that the humanity was invaded by a pesky race of aliens and that we’ve sent the Space Exterminators to destroy them.
For now, the game and the demo seems to be more of an idea, and Enrique says that more monsters, ships, and levels are going to land, but until then we’re left with something bland and no worthy of the bandwidth. Still, we have to give him time to have something more substantial. He’s just now pushed the new game into Steam Greenlight, and maybe he’ll get lucky.
The game is built with the Unity engine, but it looks like it’s developed into a much older engine. This was done probably to leave the impression that we’re playing a classic. Since this is WIP, we can’t really say that the graphics or the sound production are bad.
On the other hand, I was impressed by the quality of the artwork. Some of the enemies look really good, and they would fit right in another game. For now, you can only play Space Exterminate to see if it’s worth your vote on Steam Greenlight, but not for anything more than that.
