Sonya: The Great Adventure Demo
Retrieve your sister's life force and track down a villain in this basic hidden object game with a few puzzles #Hidden object #Adventure game #Puzzle game #Sonya #Puzzle #Adventure
Casual adventure games do not have to provide the players with a complex story or memorable characters, because the simple mechanics make it difficult to integrate anything too wild, story-wise. On the other hand, the fun lies in the puzzles and the journey, since few things are better than coming up with solutions to riddles and watching your character solve mysteries.
Sonya: The Great Adventure is a classic hidden object adventure game in which your goal is to examine scene after scene for clues and solve a couple of puzzles. The scenes in question are static and quite cramped, but they are well-designed and enjoyable, especially if you lower your expectations a little bit. There are a few annoyances to work through as well, mainly because the game is a bit old at this point.
It all starts with two sisters, Lily and Sonya, having a regular day and being happy like most rich girls are in their mansion. Things go wrong when a couple of robbers break into their house, and even worse when it turns out that they are not after jewels or money. Instead, they steal Lily’s vitality, which leaves her in a husk-like state. Naturally, you play as Sonya as she tries to retrieve her sister’s vitality and make things right again.
As far as the gameplay is concerned, things are as straightforward as they can get in the genre. All you have to do is click on objects in order to interact with them or pick them up, and the puzzles are not that tricky either. However, it’s worth noting that there are some annoyances when it comes to the interface, since you have to click on the exact spot in order for some scripts to work.
Not much can be said about the graphics either, but they are definitely not ugly. It’s obvious that the game is fairly old at this point, mainly because the resolution is tiny and a bit underwhelming for today’s screens. The artwork is nicely designed and it withstood the test of time, even if it can be difficult to make out some items every now and again.
In the end, Sonya: The Great Adventure has its fair share of flaws, especially in terms of gameplay mechanics, but it’s still a fun journey if you are a fan of the genre. Some of the puzzles are quite fun and challenging.
