Snowdrop Demo
Help a young filmmaker find inspiration while working in her friend's hotel in this interactive visual novel #Visual novel #Role-playing game #Adventure game #Novel #Role-play #Adventure
Every creative person out there has been through at least one dry spell in their life, because inspiration is not something that comes easy sometimes. However, it can be encouraged and lured using certain techniques, such as a change of scenery, or putting oneself in the middle of unusual situations. Even so, inspiration has a habit of striking from where you least expect it.
Snowdrop is an interactive visual novel in which you play the role of a girl who is trying to become an acclaimed movie maker, although her first project was pretty much a flop. The game allows you to make certain choices along the way, so it’s not a fully kinetic experience like most visual novels, but don’t expect too much freedom either, given the fact that this is still a demo at this point.
The girl’s name is Lilah Scott, and she decides to do something different for a while after her movie is not that well-received. Hence, she goes to work at her sister in law’s hotel over the winter, given the fact that the solitude and segregation might work wonders for her inspiration. Naturally, her plans appear to be ruined once a famous singer rents out the whole resort for the winter.
Archer Lane is a famous singer with a lot of money, so he has pretty weird requests and wishes from the hotel’s staff, which is you. Obviously, given the fact that romance is a factor throughout the game as well, you can actually get really close to Archer and maybe come up with a few movie ideas too. The dialog choices are not that complex, but at least they offer the illusion of freedom.
In terms of graphics, Snowdrop looks about as nice as you would expect from an indie production, with an emphasis on the characters and their facial expressions. The backdrops are not bad either, and they actually seem to have some depth, unlike the flat images seen in other visual novels. There’s even a bit of voice acting as well, although it is far from complete in the demo at hand.
Snowdrop feels pretty cozy and enjoyable, especially if you are not looking for explosions or constant drama. Thus, the full version should be even more enjoyable once all the extra elements are added to the mix.
