Toys may be designed to be enjoyed by small children, but they can also be made to look dangerous and scary. Plastic cars and dolls are not too frightening, on the other hand, so they are the most sought after toys on the market. Naturally, since kids have quite the imagination and they are not afraid to use it, most of them think about their toys as being real.

Smashing Toys is a casual racing game featuring plastic cars and wacky-looking boats, in which you get to go as fast as you can in one of the available toys and compete against the rest of the silly vehicles. Naturally, there’s a bit of violence involved as well, because each contender needs to eliminate the other competitors from the race, using a variety of specialized weapons.

As far as the story is concerned, not a lot of thought went into it, since the simplified explanation is that the toys simply came to life all of a sudden. However, there is an end goal to keep an eye on as well, because the cars need to reach a certain magic island in order to be safe and remain alive. Apparently, it’s a really small island, because everyone wants to make sure that there’s enough place for them by shooting each other.

The game provides you with the possibility to employ a variety of powerful weapons whenever you need to, albeit in a slightly less violent way and with no actual gore involved. Hence, whether you use mines, or a missile, the most you can achieve is to damage the other car and make it lose some pieces along the way. The same can happen to you, but there are repair power-ups you can pick up and regenerate.

As far as the visual quality is concerned, the graphics are colorful, yet detailed, with plenty of nice effects and good 3D models. The environments haven’t received that much care, on the other hand, which is clearly visible in the lifeless textures and the total lack of attention when it comes to detail and variety. If you go fast enough and you are having fun, though, it is possible not to observe these imperfections.

In the end, Smashing Toys can prove to be quite entertaining and amusing, especially for the younger audience. The lack of proper level design and the unremarkable mechanics make it rather difficult to recommend to anyone else, on the other hand, especially since there are much better alternatives out there.
