Silence Demo

Although it seemed like point & click games were about to be dismissed as a relic of the past, the genre has made a spectacular comeback in the last few years, thanks to a variety of great titles that showed the power of storytelling. In fact, we are in for quite the ride from this point onward as well, given the fact that there are a lot of in-development games right now that promise just as much fun.

Silence is a colorful point & click adventure game from the creators of Deponia that sends you to a wonderful world full of interesting characters and a mystery that needs to be solved. The experience can be a bit sad most of the time, so don’t expect to leave the game in a good mood, but it doesn’t really matter as long as the story holds up and the characters are memorable.

In short, the action revolves around Noah and his sister Renie, who take shelter in a bunker during an air raid. This bunker also happens to be an entrance to a different world called Silence, which is where Renie disappears after a bomb hits the shelter. Naturally, Noah goes after her in an attempt to rescue his sister and keep her safe from the unusual individuals that roam the world in question.

The gameplay is not exactly innovative, since the mechanics are more or less the same as in every other point & click adventure game out there, but the puzzles can be pretty challenging and exciting. The objects you interact with are very detailed, and the demo doesn’t really feature any useless items that are there just to make the puzzles artificially longer and more annoying.

As for the graphics, everything is spot on, and you can tell that the designers put a lot of work into the game world and each piece that’s part of it. The animations are smooth and natural, which contributes a lot to the overall atmosphere and mood. The whole thing is completed by the great voice acting and the well-chosen soundtrack, so the experience can be quite memorable under the right conditions.

In the end, it’s a bit early to say whether Silence has it all, given the fact that only a demo is out at the moment. However, it’s clear that the developers went all out in regards to story, graphics and voice acting, so the full experience is certainly going to be a thing of beauty.
